العامل المسبب	عدة مسببات للمرض: 1) البكتيريا : - النيسرية السحائية أو المكورات السحائية (Neisseria meningitidis) : مكورات مزدوجة، سلبية الغرام. من اهم الانماط المصلية العدائية : الأنماط المصلية A، B، C، W135 و Y - المستدمية النزلية (Haemophilus influenzae) : عصورات (coccobacilli) سلبية الغرام. تتضمن السلالات الممحفظة (encapsulated)، 6 انماط مصلية من (a) إلى (f). يتميز النمط المصلي (b) بانه الاكثر إمراضا. - المكورات الرئوية أو العقدية الرئوية (Streptococcus pneumoniae) : مكورات مزدوجة، ايجابية الغرام. يشمل على اكثر من 90 نمط مصلي ممحفظ - البريمية (Leptospira) : من الملتويات (spirochetes)، منها البريمية الاستفهامية (Leptospira interrogans) التي تتضمن 25 نمط مصلي - الليسترية المستوحدة (Listeria monocytogenes) : عصيات ايجابية الغرام - عوامل بكتيرية أخرى : المكورات العنقودية (Staphylococcus)، البكتيريا المعوية (Enteric bacteria)، عقديات المجموعة B (group B Streptococci)، والسل ... 2) الفيروسات : - النكاف - الحصبة - فيروس حمى غرب النيل (West Nile fever virus) : من جنس الفيروسات المصفرة (Flavivirus) - الفيروسات المعوية (Enterovirus) : تشمل فيروسات الكوكساكي أ (2 الى 4، 7، 9، 10)، و فيروسات الكوكساكي ب (1 الى 6)، وفيروسات إيكو (2، 5 الى 7، 9 الى 11، 14، 18، 30)، والفيروس المعوي (Enterovirus) 71 ، وفيروسات شلل الأطفال (1 الى 3) - فيروس الهربس البسيط (Herpes simplex) : بنوعيه 1 و 2، من عائلة فيروسات الهربسية (Herpesviridae) - الفيروس النطاقي الحماقي (Varicella-Zoster) : الفيروس البشري إنسان (ألفا) الهربسي 3 ، من مجموعة فيروسات الهربس - الفيروسات الغدانية (Adenovirus) : تتضمن عدة انماط (1، 2، 3، 4، 5 و 7)، من جنس الفيروسات المستادينوفيروس (Mastadenovirus)، عائلة الفيروسات الغدانية - فيروس التهاب السحايا والمشيميات الليمفاوي (Lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus) : من الفيروسات الرملية (Arenavirus) - فيروسات حمى الفواصد (sandfly fever virus): من جنس فيروس الفواصد (Phlebovirus)، وعائلة الفيروسات البنياوية (Bunyaviridae). تشمل على أكثر من 60 نمط مصلي مختلف. وقد حددت مجموعتين رئيسيتين : 1) مجموعة حمى الذبابة الرمل أو الصوافد التي تشمل على مجموعة نابل (Naples serocomplex)، منها فيروس كريم أباد (Karimabad)، فيروس العربي (Arabia) ، فيروس مسيليا (Massilia)، فيروس طهران (Tehran)، وفيروس توسكانا (Toscana)، ومجموعة صقلية (Sicilian serocomplex)، 2) مجموعة اليوكونيمي (Uukuniemi) - فيروسات أخرى : الفيروساتالمنقولة بالمفصليات (Arbovirus) ... 3) الطفيليات - المبيضة البيضاء (Candida albicans)، المستخفيات (Cryptococcus) ...
