Hasbani Presented the International Funding for Health Project, the Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Committee Endorses the Law
Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Ghassan Hasbani participated in the meeting of the Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Committee headed by MP Yassine Jaber. Hasbani introduced the law aiming at approving the funding of the World Bank and the Islamic Development Bank for the health care sector. This grant will be used to develop over 200 primary health care centers across Lebanon that provide treatment for more than 1.9 million people in Lebanon. It will also help the government hospitals enhance their equipment in emergency rooms based on a detailed study for their needs.
After the committee endorsed the law, Hasbani hoped that it would be implemented in 2019 for a period of 5 years. The funding is a kind of grants and soft loan from the World Bank and the Islamic Development Bank to improve the Lebanese health care sector, in particular primary health care that plays a major role in the integrated health system in Lebanon, by easing the burdens on hospitals, reducing the medical bill, providing vaccines and health packages as well as free or partly free consultations for citizens. These centers will constitute a main entry point to health care, as they will hold the medical record for each Lebanese citizen that will be required to enter the hospital at the expense of the Lebanese State.
