Hasbani: We have Taken Several Steps to Control the Healthcare Bill and We have Asked for Additional Funding to Cover the Chronic Diseases
Deputy Prime Minister Health Minister Ghassan Hasbani noted that there is no doubt that the healthcare sector is facing challenges such as the multiple insurers in the State.
Speaking to “the Voice of Lebanon” radio station in Achrafieh, Hasbani said: “we have been trying to coordinate with all the insurers. The greatest challenge is the MOPH budget, in particular regarding the treatment of patients at the expenses of the Ministry. Hence, we are working to control the healthcare bill and introduce the technology in hospitals and other measures.”
When asked about the financial ceilings of the hospitals, Health Minister stated that the ceilings were established based on unclear standards, and a scientific equation of all the relevant factors was developed and submitted to the Cabinet for adoption.
Hasbani recalled the decision of the Lebanese government to suspend employment as a way to rationalize spending, noting that the Ministry has fully complied with the same. He added that focus has been given to the performance of the Ministry Officials to provide better services.
As for the awareness campaigns, Hasbani said that more efforts have been put in this context, mainly in coordination with Primary Healthcare Centers where tests are carried out in private or governmental hospitals.
