Lebanon among the World Countries that have Made the Most Progress in PHC

Lebanon is considered among the world countries that have made the most significant progress in PHC delivery and quality. This was shown by the global study published last May in the medical journal “The lancet” under the title: “Measuring performance on the healthcare access and quality index for 195 countries and territories and selected subnational locations”. The study was conducted by experts from around the world, including experts from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington.

The global study addresses healthcare index for 195 countries between 1990 and 2016, i.e. over 26 years. The results show that healthcare access and quality index has improved in the past years. However this improvement is still low or lacks in many countries. The identification of failures and improvement in PHC helps rationalize the decisions and strategies to ensure a better future for societies, given the importance of providing access to healthcare to all societies.

The results of the study show that Lebanon, Turkey and Saudi Arabia are the countries that made the most progress in healthcare quality and access among the middle socio demographic index – SDI countries, while South Korea, Taiwan and Cyprus have achieved the most progress among high – SDI countries.
